Carburettor Services
As well as tuning and repair facilities we also offer a full carburettor restoration service to bring your carbs back to their original condition and proper working order.
There are two main levels of service:
Bench service:
Here the carburettor will be stripped down to give access to the float chamber and jets etc to allow thorough cleaning with a powerful solvent. This removes ingrained dirt including oil and petrol varnishes. Then all the fuel and air passages are blown through with compressed air to remove any debris that may have found its way into the carburettor.
The body is checked for wear to the throttle spindles and any other signs of damage such as a distorted base on down draft carbs, which will cause air leaks and poor running. On most carburettors, worn throttle spindles can be rectified by bushing the carburettor body with either Teflon or steel bushes. This service is available as an additional cost to the standard bench service.
Once cleaned and any repair work carried out the carburettor is reassembled using a service kit which replaces all the essential gaskets, seal’s and diaphragms etc.
Full overhaul:
As the name suggests this is the ultimate in carburettor restoration and is an option often chosen by classic car restorers.

During the first stage the carburettor is stripped down to every single component and the various metals, i.e; steel, aluminium and brass grouped together. As it is stripped the carburettor is inspected for damage or wear.

Each metal group then goes through a four stage chemical dip process including de-greaser, acid dips and metal brightener to thoroughly clean and restore every component as near to its original condition as possible. The degreaser and acid dip have the advantage of penetrating into all the minute air and fuel passages and removing any corrosion that may have partially or completely blocked them over the years and which can cause numerous running problems.

As with the bench service the carburettor body is then thoroughly blown out with compressed air to remove any remains of chemical and or dirt.
The carburettor is then rebuilt using a service kit and float height etc re-set. If required carburettors can be rebuilt onto your manifold with new gaskets/o-rings ready for fitting onto your engine.
