Description

This Caterham 360 Throttle body (Air Filter) and Camshaft kit has been developed and tested in house by Northampton Motorsport. By drawing on over 20 years’ experience of engine tuning and ECU calibration, we have been able to extract the best possible results without major internal engine upgrades. This kit is offered in three variants with the first retaining the entire throttle body kit under the bonnet (including the air filter). This second kit is with an air filter which exits the bonnet and the third kit also exits the bonnet, but with a Carbon Air Box. Each variant is supplied with a set of Piper Cams Ultimate Road Camshafts with uprated Piper Springs & Retainers which brings the engine to 420 spec. For more information and performance variation of each kit, please see the performance toggles below.

The Caterham 360 Throttle body (Air Filter) and Camshaft kit is suitable for the 360 and 360R models and both the S3 and SV chassis. It can be used on the road, track and for competition use.

What's included?

This Caterham 360 Throttle body (Air Filter) and Camshaft kit includes:

Unlike many of our competitors, this kit is comprehensive and includes everything that you will need for the throttle body conversion. If you are comparing the price with other suppliers, please be sure to check that they have included everything that you will require.

Please note: Once this kit has been installed, the car needs to have the Engine Control Unit recalibrated to suit the modifications. The standard Caterham MBE ECU is encrypted and cannot be accessed without the correct software. Northampton Motorsport can in most cases access these locked ECU’s however we would need to confirm this by connecting to your ECU before any work on the car is started. The locked ECU can be replaced if required by the unlocked version of the ECU which is an MBE 9M4. This is completely compatible with the Caterham wiring harness and has the added benefit of allowing us to carry out remote support should it ever be required.

Should you wish to purchase an unlocked ECU and have your calibration work done elsewhere then the unit can be supplied with a base calibration to get your engine up and running. To connect to the MBE ECU you will need Easimap 6 software and an MBE CAN Mapping Kit.

Piper Cams:

Included in this tuning kit are a pair of Piper Ultimate Road Camshafts and Uprated Piper Valve Springs and Retainers. This camshaft set is the hottest cam profile from Piper for the Duratec engine which can be fitted without creating more valve to piston clearance. Once fitted as part of the this kit, the overall results were within 1BHP of a standard 420 with the same throttle body conversion.

Please note: The Duratec engine has mechanical followers as standard so the bucket shims may need adjustment for installation. Please Contact Us if you require any additional information about this step.

Caterham 360 Throttle body Package & Performance options:

Under Bonnet / Option 1

Our first option is the only option we offer which keeps everything under the bonnet but is only suitable for SV (wide) chassis. Our test car saw 226.5bhp and 168.5lb/ft with gains starting from 4000rpm up to 8000rpm. If you look at the rolling road graph below, the black lines are prior to installation and tuning with the red lines after.

As with all tuning packages, it’s impossible to guarantee exactly what power figures you will receive. The reason for this is every car is different and items such as the exhaust, catalyst, mileage, service history and general engine wear are all factors in the results. A consideration must be factored in for this when purchasing this kit. The initial power run on the test car was completely standard.

Out of Bonnet with Air filter / Option 2

This second option is aimed at Fast Road applications where induction noise is not a factor. Out test car saw the best results out of the three packages with 229.2bhp and 175.2lb/ft at peak power with the best gains in the midrange starting from 4000rpm. If you look at the rolling road graph below, the black lines are prior to installation and tuning with the red lines after.
