Clear

An engine bay is a harsh environment for a wiring harness. Temperatures over 100C, vibration, movement of the engine, water, oils and solvents and that is just under normal running conditions. There are also accidental pulls on the cables & connections and impacts of tools onto the cables when servicing. Just one electrical short, poor connection or broken cable is all it takes to stop your engine but you should never have to worry about this as they can all be easily avoided; you just need a wiring harness that is up to the job!

Race specification harnesses are built in-house by Omex engineers ensuring the attention to detail is the same across all Omex products, regardless of cost. Quality control checks borrowed from the aerospace industry, then modified to suit Omex harnesses, ensure that every harness is checked by two engineers to prescribed standards. Gold plated terminals are used at the ECU as it is the lowest resistance material for contacts, giving the best signals to the ECU from the sensors.

The cables are twisted together to reject radiated electrical interference from sources such as the high tension sparks, alternator and starter motor, meaning the signals from your sensors are still good when they reach the ECU. Many harness manufacturers tightly machine-twist the cables together as this is the fastest method but one which causes unwanted stresses in the materials. Omex harnesses are twisted by hand so they don’t just look good, they are mechanically perfect.

Covering the cables is motorsport-grade heat shrink for the correct solvent, heat and abrasion resistance for racing engine bay use. Joints and connector backs are covered with glue lined heat shrink which is stiff to reduce stresses from the harness bending at these joints. It also minimises tension on the wire joints, moving these tensions to the strong connector housings and cables. The twisted cables are incredibly flexible, allowing tight turns without stressing any of the materials. Each connector leg is labelled for quick fitment and the label is covered in clear heat shrink protecting the text from abrasion, oil and solvents so you can always read it.

A relay for managing power to the injectors, ignition coils etc is fitted to the harness as standard. There is also wiring to allow ECU control of a fuel pump relay and radiator fan relay already on your chassis harness, or optionally Omex can add these relays to your ECU harness.
