Northampton Motorsport have sponsored DMU Racing since 2015 and we have watched the students and car go from strength to strength over the years. During their first year under our guidance, they finished in 37th place.

The car has improved year on year and we were all very excited going into this years competition. Thankfully, the team at DMU Racing didn’t let us down with a 6th place overall finish and placing 2nd in the acceleration challenge. With the level of competition and DMU’s tight budget, this shows how well the team has done this year.

DMU Racing visited Northampton Motorsport’s workshop in June to assist getting the car started, calibrating the Life Racing F88RS engine management system and setting the wheel alignment and corner weights. Whilst they came to us for guidance, all of the students were keen to get their hands dirty and carried out all of the work under our supervision.

Here is a quote from DMU Racing Team Leader Nuri:

“This year DMU Racing came 6th place overall out of 96 other teams, scoring their highest ever position. Northampton motorsport have been continuously supporting the team with a tremendous amount of technical knowledge, providing components, supporting our suspension set-up, tuning our engine and teaching members of the team how to use industry grade laser calibration systems and engine tuning equipment.”

Formula student is the IMechE’s largest international student competition where over 100 teams compete to build a formula style car. Teams are constrained by hundreds of rules which govern each aspect of the car.  The competition is held at Silverstone in July one week after the British grand prix.
