Description

This Porsche 911 Fuel Injection Kit has been developed, tested and assembled in house by Northampton Motorsport. By drawing on over 20 years’ experience of engine tuning and ECU calibration, we have selected components from market leading manufacturers to assemble a comprehensive fuel injection kit.

This kit is suitable for all air cooled Porsche 911’s with configurable options depending on your specific model. It is also available with a choice of throttle bodies and air filters if you preferred to keep the original styling but the benefits of modern engine management.

What’s included?

Jenvey Throttle Bodies

Jenvey design, develop and manufacture all products in house at their Shropshire workshop in the UK. They have their own foundry and all castings are created in the same factory that they are machined and built in. Cast systems are significantly lighter than fully CNC parts and all major components are backed up by rig tests of over 1 million cycles.

Jenvey Throttle Bodies significantly increase performance and throttle response. This is enhanced by careful positioning of the fuel injectors being located further upstream than standard and directly in the part throttle turbulence of the butterfly. This allows increased time/distance for improved fuel mixing, increasing torque and power where it’s needed.  Jenvey’s spindles are profiled to minimise cross sectional area at full throttle and an 8 degree shut angle (shallower than most) gives finer control at small throttle openings.

Included within this is:

  • Jenvey Throttle Body Kit which includes:
    • SF Throttle Bodies (x6)
    • Balanced Linkage Kit (x1)
    • Inlet Manifolds (x2)
    • Heat Insulating Spacers (x6)
    • Fuel Rails (x2)
    • 90mm Long tapered Air Horns (x6)

We also recommend the use of Air Filters with this kit. Further information can be found below in the “optional Extras” area of this listing below.

Throttle Body Sizing

There are currently 4 alternative Jenvey SF Throttle Body kits available. All of the fundamentals of these kits are the same with the difference being how they bolt to the engine and the internal bore size. The bolt layout refers to how the inlet manifold bolts to the engine and the bore size refers to the inlet port size. Details and sizing can be found below:

  • 2-Bolt / Small Bore (34mm Port / 45mm Tapered Throttle Bodies): Typically early 2.0L and 3.0L 911’s.
  • 2 Bolt / Large Bore (41mm Port / 48mm Tapered Throttle Body): Typically 3.2L Carrera
  • 3-Bolt / Small Bore (45mm Parallel Throttle Body): Typically 3.6L and 3.8L 964
  • 3-Bolt / Large Bore (51mm Tapered Throttle Body): Typically used on high performance / race engines

Please note: With the 3-bolt kits, there are lots of different port sizes so Jenvey match the port size to order.

If you are unsure of your engine type or what Throttle bodies you will require, please Contact Us and a member of our team would be more than happy to assist.

Life Racing Engine Management System

Life Racing was formed in 2002 to provide specialist electronics for the professional motor racing industry, OEM automotive suppliers and military applications. They have extensive experience in the design, manufacture, development and support of a broad range of products including engine control units (ECUs), power distribution units (PDUs), Display Units plus much more.

Since then, along with their sister company Advanced Engine Research, Life Racing has powered teams to forty-three championships including two class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, two at the 24 Hours of Daytona, three at the 12 Hours of Sebring and four at the ten-hour Petit Le Mans. AER has been the chosen engine supplier for numerous single make series including GP3, Indy Lights, World Series Light and World Series by Nissan, and in most cases these engines use Life Racing electronics for powertrain control.  In addition to this Life Racing has a long history of providing technical assistance to automotive manufacturers and F1 engine suppliers.

Included within this kit is:

We also include a base map pre-loaded on the ECU and are able to offer remote support where required.

Fuel System:

As part of installing this Porsche 911 Fuel Injection Kit, changes are required to the fuel system. All of these are all within the engine bay and all of the fittings and lines required are included. This consists of:

We also offer the addition of a fuel pressure sensor which we recommend for track day and race cars. Further information can be found below in the “optional Extras” area of this listing below.

Engine Wiring Harness

Our wiring harnesses are designed and manufactured in house using the highest quality of materials. These looms are concentric twisted, come fully assembled, labelled, made to length and are as plug and play as possible. Power and Ground are the only items you are required to connect. This wiring loom is assembled from:

  • 22AWG Spec 55 Race Wire (various colours / 94 meters total)
  • 20AWG Spec 55 Race Wire (various colours / 25 meters total)
  • 16AWG Spec 55 Race Wire (various colours / 2 meters total)
  • 2 Core Screened Spec 44 Wire (White / 2 meters Total)
  • 3 Core Screened Spec 44 Wire (White / 3 meters Total)
  • All relevant connector kits
  • Heat shrunk and ready to install

We also offer an upgrade to Raychem heat shrink which we recommend for track day and race cars. Further information can be found below in the “Optional Extras” area of this listing below.

Below is a list of options available Porsche 911 Fuel Injection Kit.

Air Filters and Tin Work

We highly recommend using air filters on all road, track and race applications. ITG have over 30 years’ experience in the production of quality air filters. They are the trusted brand to many in the very top level of motorsport. Their trifoam filters are high quality, durable and are designed and handmade in the UK. We have seen every type of air filter imaginable after 20+ years of Rolling Road tuning and they are a critical component of your engine. We partnered with ITG over 10 years ago as in our opinion, their filters offer the best performance whilst being very simple to install and offering outstanding protection for your engine.

This includes:

The outlet pipework is a genuine Porsche component and may require slight fettling for installation. We can supply the air filters with our Northampton Motorsport logo, ITG logo or without a logo.

Optional Engine Management

Knock Control:

Life Racing Adaptive Knock Control is an advanced strategy which allows the use of up to 2 knock sensors which can identify engine detonation or knock. This is particularly relevant for highly tuned normally aspirated engines. The strategy knows which cylinder or cylinders is knocking and will retard the ignition on the relevant cylinders only until the knock stops. It will then reintroduce the ignition in steps. The retard and reintroduction steps are timed in engine cycles so are very fast and not noticeable by the driver. This strategy is normally set to retard ignition timing to allow you to run your engine with the optimum ignition timing with the knowledge that the ECU is there to protect the engine should knock occur.

Knock control kit includes:

Additional Sensors

The Life ECU can accept inputs from many different engine sensors but probably most relevant would-be oil temperature along with fuel pressure. By adding an oil and fuel pressure sensors, the ECU can apply engine protection strategies that can either be a limp mode with limited rpm of a full engine shutdown if a problem occurs.  The oil pressure trip table for example is a full 3d table taking into account oil temperature as well as engine rpm.

We recommend knock control and the additional of the fuel / oil pressor sensors for all track day cars, race cars or highly modified engines.

Brake Servo

If your Porsche 911 has a brake servo, then this optional extra is required. As the stock inlet manifold is being replaced with throttle bodies, the vacuum port for the brake servo requires rerouting. This kit includes 1/2″ Aeroquip Push Lock Pipe, a Nylon t-piece and various fittings.

Twin Spark

For Porsche 911’s with twin spark engines, a secondary coilpack and HT Lead set are required.  A twin spark engine is where there are two spark plugs per cylinder instead of the traditional one. As there are an additional 6 spark plugs per engine, these need to be controlled via the following parts:

Installation and Mapping

As well as supplying these in kit form, we are also able to install this Porsche 911 Fuel Injection Kit in our Northamptonshire Workshop. After installation, we are also able to run through an initial calibration setup, vehicle check and then tune the car on our in house Superflow AD30 2 wheel drive chassis dyno. If you were looking to install the kit yourself, we are able to offer the base calibration remotely and would be happy to take on the calibration work separately. Please Contact Us for installation and mapping prices.

Delivery

We aim to carry one kit in stock and will try to dispatch within five working days. Due to the popularity of this kit, this is not always possible. If you require a specific lead time, please Contact Us and a member of our team will be happy to check stock for you. If we do not have a wiring loom in stock, the lead time could be up to three to four weeks.
